Reconstruction, realignment and upgrade of sections of the highway between Hines Hill and Walgoolan commenced in January 2006 and was completed in 2008.
The upgrade to the highway through the Kellerberrin townsite (worth $12 million) commenced in October 2009 and is scheduled for completion in April 2010. This will also include the upgrade of Steelwell Road between Great Eastern Highway and Mather Road.
