Simon Shaw has over twenty five years experience as a Civil Engineer involved in the design & construction of roads and bridges.  As the Design Manager he is responsible for liaising with all Team Members, gathering a wide range of data to ensure designs address technical as well as community and environmental issues.  He is well known for his critical thinking and attention to detail.  A devoted family man, Simon enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.  Other passions include playing his Gibson Guitar and Ocean Yacht Racing.  Simon has recently been accepted as a “Fellow“ into the Institute of Engineers.

 

A key member of the Design Team since the start of the project, Sheree Honore' has been involved in the design and documentation of most of the Design Packages for the Alliance.  In particular Sheree has undertaken the geometric design for the Booran realignment and the Burracoppin townsite section of the highway.  Sheree's other specialty is the line marking and signage for the highway and intersections.  She will also be a member of the Kellerberrin Townsite design, where her attention to detail will make her a valuable Team Member.

 

Born and educated in South Africa Lourens (Lou) Hiemstra completed tertiary studies in Civil Engineering at the Technical College of Cape Town.  Following two years working on civil sites mainly involved in townsite development, Lou left home in January 1998 to explore opportunities in New Zealand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and Australia.  Since arriving in Australia he has worked with South Australian company Fabtech, designing and constructing plastic membrane structures before working with another South Australian company, Todd Alexander, as an Engineering Field Surveyor.  In January 2002 he joined reinforced concrete specialists M&B Civil working as a Field Supervisor in the Cooper Basin.  Lou joined Brierty Contractors in 2003 as a Construction Manager on various projects including the massive infrastructure upgrade at Telfer Gold Mine.  Lou's skills in surveying, concrete structures, ground improvement, dam and road construction make him an ideal Construction Manager.

 

ALine East Safety Manager, Traffic Manager, Local Football Legend, Local Identity and Social Coordinator, the list is quite extensive.  Stephen Broad has joined us from Brierty Contractors out of Telfer and is managing our safety and traffic on site.  Between his many roles, Stephen conducts our Toolbox Meetings and the activities of the Traffic Controllers to achieve an accident/injury free project.

 

 
Travis Wagland has recently taken the step from Plant Operator to Trainee Supervisor with the ALine East Team.  Travis, the partner of local Northside Tavern Manager Christie, is enjoying the quality time in Merredin and with Construction Manager Lou Hiemstra, is developing a strong Team on site and tackling the job of building the road.  Travis also performs our weekend inspections of the site inbetween his babysitting routines.

 

 

 

 

Alliance Manager Mark Sutton is well credentialed with 10 years experience in the public sector with Main Roads WA and a further 10 years in the private sector with Brierty Contractors.  A qualified engineer, Mark is able to share a wealth of road construction and project management experience with the team.  Mark was a Team Leader/Deputy Director of the award winning Stirling Alliance for Water Corporation.  He has successfully managed 15 MRWA road construction contracts with Brierty Contractors and prides himself on always seeking to achieve the best outcome on every project and pursuing a win/win scenario for all stakeholders.

 

Local girl, Jess Twomey is the first point of contact for visitors to our Merredin Site Office at 80 Barrack Street.
Since 1999 Jess has been employed with various local businesses including Byfields, CBH, Target and the Merredin Golf and Bowling Club.
Her wide range of office and customer service expertise as well as her local knowledge is invaluable in supporting the ALine East team.

Brierty Contractor employee Rob Hardie fills the Quality Manager role within the Management Team of the Alliance. 
Being of Architectural background, Rob's keen eye in the implementation of the Quality System and development of the Alliance Integrated Management System is invaluable.  Rob has worked on many Management Projects in Perth including the Southern Rail extensions. 
Rob is currently based in Merredin and is enjoying the friendly environment.

 

 

Main Roads WA Engineer Sadequr Rahman is a key member of the ALine East Team.  Sadequr, who works in the Northam Region of Main Roads and lives in Perth, is based in Merredin to support the Team with service relocations and subcontractor management of activities such as bituminous sealing.  Sadequr's technical background in Civil Engineering will be a key ingredient to a successful project.

 

 

 
 
Material Consultants Soil Technician Ryan Paskett  loves Merredin.  Being responsible for the field testing of the Road Building Materials keeps Ryan busy and helps the Team comply with the stringent standards and compliance requirements.  Ryan has integrated well into both the Team and town and looks forward to continuing his role within the Alliance.  Ryan has operated Field Laboratories for some years now and his experience in rural conditions is of great assistance.

 

 

Steve Bond is from WML Consultants and is in charge of sourcing road construction materials, testing them for suitability and managing extraction.  He has worked closely with farmers west of Merredin to ensure extraction of material, particularly gravel, is controlled.  Steve is particular about recording quantities, maintaining haul routes and pit rehabilitation.  A keen ear for music, Steve enjoys production.

 

 
 
 
Brett Walters is the site's Senior Supervisor and has recently joined us from the Brierty Great Northern Highway Construction in Bullsbrook.  Brett's extensive experience will compliment Construction Manager Lou Hiemstra, with support from Travis Wagland.  Brett is enjoying the Alliance atmosphere and life in the ALine Village Camp.  A keen Home-Brewer of red wine, we welcome Brett to the Team.
